History of the original design. The original Nautilus arrived in 1976, giving Patek Philippe a distinctive expression of the elegantly sporty wristwatch. Its rounded octagonal bezel drew on the shape of a ship's porthole, while horizontal dial relief helped establish a recognizable visual signature. The collection subsequently expanded into different sizes, decorated interpretations and increasingly varied displays. A ladies' version joined in 1980, and later complications broadened the family further. Through those changes, the relationship between the case outline, dial texture and integrated bracelet remained central to the Nautilus design language. This history concerns the original collection, not the manufacture, materials or performance of this replica.
